The Universale stacking chair was originally intended to be made out of aluminum, but was first produced using injection molded Cycolac ABS plastic. It was the first adult-sized, all plastic, injection molded chair. Different leg lengths could be attached to the seat for varied chair heights. For the tallest option, there was a footrest provided. The Universale is stackable in sets of 3. Its detachable legs were available in 2 heights. In 1974, the design was modified for production in injection molded polypropylene.
Interchangeable legs of two heights were offered, and the chair can stack. Kartell still produces this chair.
A great classic of the history of Italian design, displayed in many museums throughout the world. With semicircular section legs and tongue and groove joint, this overlappable chair is characterised by the comfort offered by the ergonomics of the seat and back, and by the excellent characteristics of resistance to impact and atmospheric agents.
